The completely natural aging process often first becomes noticeable on the face - especially in the sensitive area around the eyes. Intensive sunbathing, stress and nicotine consumption make the whole thing worse. Over the years, unsightly excess skin and small accumulations of fat can form.

When might there be a medical indication? For example, if the upper eyelids become so heavy and slack due to tired skin and orbicularis oculi muscle that only the eyelashes prevent the eyelid with the excess skin from sinking downwards.
This can lead to impaired vision and impaired vision, for example at computer workstations or in traffic. This is a medical indication for an operation.
Cost
The costs depend on the extent of the procedure. Do you want a general anesthetic instead of a local anesthetic? How extensive is the actual operation, what “condition” are your eyelids in?
After your individual and detailed consultation, you will receive a personal offer. It includes all costs and gives you planning security without any further cost risk. The costs are usually between 1,500 and 2,500 euros for both eyes including anesthesia. If you have to cover the costs yourself, we will be happy to offer you financing.

Personal advice and information
Before the procedure, there is a detailed consultation with the treating doctor in which all questions, wishes and ideas are discussed. Dr. Beate Steinhorst informs the patients comprehensively about possible risks and explains the exact procedure of the operation. An individual operation plan is drawn up and the optimal incision is marked on the eyelids with a fine pen. Preoperative examinations, such as checking the eyesight and measuring the field of vision, are also part of the preparation. It is also important that patients stop taking blood-thinning medication and abstain from nicotine around 14 days before the operation.
The procedure
Upper eyelid correction is performed on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia. If the patient wishes, the procedure can also be performed under short-term anesthesia. During the operation, which lasts about 45-60 minutes, excess skin, wrinkles and, if necessary, fatty tissue are removed. The fine skin incisions follow the natural skin folds in order to leave barely visible scars later. After the very precise operation, the eyelids must be cooled to minimize swelling and redness. These symptoms are normal and subside quickly. Due to the swelling, the eyes may briefly become slightly dry at night.
After the operation
Cool:
- On the day of surgery and for the first 2-3 days, cool the patient down with cool packs.
- From day 5, apply black tea compresses daily for 10-15 minutes.
Minimize stress:
- Do not rub or press on the eye.
- No heavy physical activity (>20 kg) for 2 weeks.
Eye ointment/medication:
- Apply Floxal eye ointment 3 times daily.
- Taking bromelain tablets (twice daily for 2 weeks).
Washing/cleaning/make-up:
- During the first 4 days, carefully clean the eyelashes with damp cotton swabs.
- Face can be washed with clean water from day 5.
- Do not use makeup (especially waterproof makeup) for 2 weeks after surgery.
Sport:
- Light sports (jogging, Pilates) possible after 1 week.
- Weight training and swimming with goggles from 2 weeks.
Aftercare:
- Keep appointments: Usually on the first day and about 10 days after the operation for stitch removal.
Swelling/bruising:
