Your expert for crosslinking in keratoconus: state-of-the-art techniques for corneal stabilization.
Cornea Cross Linking (CCL for short) is a new method for treating the corneal disease keratoconus in an early phase with UV light and vitamin B2.
To do this, the epithelium, the superficial corneal cell layer, is removed. Vitamin B2 (riboflavin) is then dripped onto the cornea and the eye is locally irradiated with UV light. The light causes the vitamin B2 to create a cross-link in the cornea.
This method can stop keratoconus, which otherwise continues to progress throughout life.
