LASIK suitability check! Am I a suitable candidate?

What is an ICL?

The ICL is an ultra-thin, flexible lens made of biocompatible Collamer material that is implanted in the eye in addition to the natural lens. It is positioned between the iris and the natural lens – without removing any tissue. Unlike laser procedures, the natural eye structure is completely preserved.

Which refractive errors can the ICL correct?

  • Myopia up to -18 diopters
  • Farsightedness up to +10 diopters
  • Astigmatism up to 6 diopters

Advantages of ICL at a glance

  • No change to the corneal structure – ideal for thin corneas
  • High-quality vision, even with severe visual impairments
  • Reversible: The lens can be removed or replaced.
  • Suitable for young patients whose natural lens is flexible.
  • No "dry eye" as after some laser treatments
  • Excellent night vision – thanks to the central aperture of the EVO Visian ICL
  • Short-term, outpatient procedure with rapid recovery

A lifetime of clear vision – safe and flexible with ICL lenses

At LZW, we prioritize maximum safety and flexibility with ICL: The lens is implanted in addition to the natural lens of the eye – without removing any tissue. A major advantage over laser treatments is its reversibility: The ICL can be removed or replaced with a different model if necessary. This ensures your treatment remains adaptable – even as your vision changes over the course of your life.

Comprehensive suitability assessment and individual consultation

We begin with a comprehensive preliminary examination. This includes measuring your visual acuity, corneal thickness, pupil size, and anterior chamber depth – essential values for selecting and placing the ICL. Based on this data, we determine whether the anatomical requirements for implantation are met. In a personal consultation, we will also discuss your expectations, answer any questions you may have, and develop an individualized treatment plan together.

The procedure – safe, gentle, outpatient

On the day of the surgery, you will receive local anesthesia via eye drops. The actual implantation takes approximately 10–15 minutes per eye. Through a tiny incision at the edge of the cornea, the ICL is folded and inserted into the eye, where it unfolds on its own and gently positions itself between the iris and the natural lens. The procedure is generally painless, and the cornea remains virtually untouched – a significant advantage over laser procedures.

Follow-up checks and adjustment phase

Many patients report significantly improved vision as early as the day after the procedure. In the following weeks, we conduct close monitoring to check the lens position, intraocular pressure, and the stability of your visual acuity. The recovery phase is usually short – many patients return to their daily routines after just a few days.
